Brightness gain is a form of image amplification. It's a collective process of flux gain and minification gain and is the product of both gains. So what is flux gain? Flux gain results from the release of photocathode electrons and their acceleration towards the anode and output phosphor. Additionally, the intense light output at the output phosphor also contributes to flux gain. Each electron from the photocathode that strikes the output phosphor can generate fifty to seventy five times as many light photons that created it. Fllux gain does not take into account the input screen conversion efficiency, but rather the gain obtained from the electron to light conversion at the output phosphor.
