Solid & Semi-solids (Capsules, Tablets, Caplets, Lozenges) - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on the different forms of medication. This lesson discusses the characteristics of capsules, tablets, caplets, and lozenges, as well as the clinical considerations and handling techniques. Capsules, tablets, caplets, and lozenges all fall under the category of solid and semisolid medications. Capsules are gelatin shells filled with either powder or liquid medication. They are designed to dissolve quickly in the stomach, ensuring rapid absorption of the drug. Capsules can mask unpleasant tastes and odors of medication, making them easier for patients to swallow. Tablets are formed by compressing powdered medication into a solid form. They often contain binders, fillers, and sometimes coatings to control the release rate of the medication into the bloodstream. Tablets may be scored, allowing them to be split into doses if necessary.
