Brain Infections - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about brain infections that we can visualize in sectional imaging. These are pretty uncommon, but we still need to understand what they look like and what causes them. The first type of brain infection that we'll analyze is abscess. An abscess is simply an area of localized infection. An abscess can appear anywhere in the body including in the brain. When an abscess does develop in the brain, we sometimes will call it serribritis because it's an infection or inflammation of the cerebrum. So what does an abscess look like? Well, its appearance in the brain is actually very similar to its appearance anywhere else in the body. An abscess in the brain will appear as a walled rim enhancing cavity filled with fluid or gas. So that rim enhancement is interesting because what that tells us is that If the patient is receiving contrast, that contrast will tend to collect in the wall of the abscess, and the abscess is going to be filled usually with fluid or even
