Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This video is about the signal to noise ratio. Commonly abbreviated SNR. So what is the SNR? It's actually a ratio that compares the amount of signal in an image to the amount of noise in an image. Signal refers to the good information in a radiographic image. It's the information from the remnant beam that represents the actual patient anatomy. Image noise is just the opposite. It refers to the bad information in the image. Sometimes called disinformation because noise does not represent actual patient anatomy. Here's a way of thinking about this. Imagine trying to have a conversation with someone in a loud place. It's difficult to hear the conversation because of all of the back ground noise. The conversation is the signal, and the background noise is the noise.
