Injection Safety - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This CT contrast video is about injection safety. It probably comes as no surprise that communication is the first step in a safe IV contrast injection procedure. As you talk with your patient prior to the scan, make sure to explain the procedure to them so they know what to expect during the scan. Also make sure to explain the effects of receiving IV contrast. For example, the patient should understand that iodinated contrast may give them a metallic taste in their mouth and a feeling of warmth over their entire body. I've had more than a few patients try to climb off the table because I forgot to tell them they might feel like they're wetting their pants. Also explain to the patient the risk of the procedure. They should understand what might go wrong when they receive IV contrast. When the patient understands all of these things, they're much more likely to cooperate during the procedure, which leads to a safer injection
