Learn MoreMRI Sinuses (Anatomy) - Video Lesson
Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the sinuses. In this lesson, we will discuss the basic anatomy on axial, sagittal, and coronal slices. Let's get started. Sinuses are air filled cavities located in the skull, so they will appear dark on all image weightings in MRI unless pathology is present. Within the cranial cavity, there are four paranasal sinuses, which are named for what bone they are associated with. The frontal sinus is in the frontal bone, located near the eyebrows. The maxillary sinus is located in the maxillary bone, near the cheeks. The sphenoid sinus is more in the center of the skull, located in the sphenoid bone close to the pituitary gland. The ethmoid sinus is in the ethmoid bone, situated between the eyes and nose. Let's look at some anatomy on the MRI images. On the axial view at the level of the lateral ventricles, the frontal sinus is not yet visible.
