MRI Pituitary (Anatomy) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI for the pituitary. In this lesson, we will look at some anatomy on sagittal and coronal scans. Let's get started. Starting with the sagittal view, the slice is located lateral to the midline. We can see the cerebellum located inferiorly. Superior to the cerebellum is the cerebrum. Other important structures include the lateral ventricle and the thalamus. Towards the midline of the image, we can see a portion of the air filled ethmoid sinuses as they appear dark. Moving medially, the ethmoid sinuses are better demonstrated, as well as the sphenoid sinus located just inferior to where the pituitary gland sits. Continuing medially, major structures easily seen include the pituitary gland, which sits in the sella turcica. This appears bright on the image as this is a post contrast t one weighted image, and the pituitary gland normally enhances with contrast.
