MRI Internal Auditory Canal (IAC) (Anatomy) - Video Lesson

Hey everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the internal auditory canal or IAC. In this lesson, we will discuss the basic anatomy and important structures of the IAC on axial and coronal images. Let's get started. This first axial slice is located at the lower portion of the orbit. We can see the bright globe anteriorly in the inferior rectus muscle extending posteriorly. A cross section of the basilar artery is visible right in the middle. Moving inferiorly, the orbits reduce in size. The temporal lobes are visible as well as the cerebellum. Here we again see the cerebellum with bright fluid in the center where the fourth ventricle is located, which indicates that this is a t two weighted image. Interiorly, CSF surrounds the area of the basilar artery representing the cerebellopontine angle cistern. Remember, cisterns are just wide in areas where the CSF
