Ovarian cysts are fluid filled sacs on the ovary often caused by hormonal imbalances or follicular issues during the menstrual cycle. Most are benign, but some can rupture or twist. On MRI, they appear as well defined T2 hyperintense or bright lesions with simple cysts showing no enhancement post contrast.
