MRI Small and Large Bowel Pathologies (Anatomy) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on common pathologies associated with an MRI for the small or large bowel. In this lesson, we will discuss characteristics of routine pathologies seen on these types of scans. It is important to remember there are many pathologies associated with these structures. These are just a few common ones a technologist should be familiar with. Let's get started. MRI provides detailed noninvasive images of the small intestine, which is comprised of the duodenum, jejunum, and ileum, and the large intestine, which is comprised of the cecum, ascending, transverse, descending, and sigmoid colon, and rectum. MRI is particularly useful for assessing soft tissue inflammation and masses often using techniques like enterography for the small bowel and soft tissue pelvis scans for the colon. In MR enterography, patients drink a contrast agent to distend the small bowel, enhancing visibility.
