MRI Abdomen Anatomy: Important Structures (Axial) - Video Lesson
Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the abdomen. In this lesson, we will look at some important anatomy on axial scans. Let's get started. On this most superior axial slice, we are still in the lung field as demonstrated by the dark lungs. The heart is located midline. Immediately posterior to the heart is the descending aorta. On this next slice, the dark lungs are demonstrated, but we can see the most superior portion of the liver starting to emerge. At midline, more details of the heart are visible, including the left ventricle and right ventricle. The atria are demonstrated, but not clear due to cardiac motion. Continuing inferiorly, more of the liver is demonstrated. Other structures visible include the intercostal muscles and posterior portion of the ribs attaching to the vertebral bodies, the erector spinae muscles, the bright CSF in the spinal canal, and gray spinal cord.
