CT Pelvis (Axial) - Video Lesson

Welcome back to this section anatomy tutorial. We'll be looking at a CT of the pelvis in the axial plane. This first image of the pelvis shows a lot of the same anatomy that we see in the lower abdomen For example, you'll notice that we're still looking at the lumbar vertebrae at this level in the patient. We can also see the iliac crest of the illegal bones on both sides of the patient You'll also notice that most of the cavity of the pelvis at this point is filled with the small bowel. This patient did receive oral contrast, and so you'll notice that Some portions of the bowel are filled with contrast while others do not have as much contrast. We can also see both sides of the colon at this stage in the right lower quadrant, we're, of course, looking at the beginning of the colon, which is the ascending colon at the level of the cecum. On the other side of the patient in the left lower quadrant, at this point, we're looking at the descending colon, which eventually becomes the sigmoid colon and the rectum. There's a few muscles that we can still see that we also saw in the abdominal cavity. Here on both sides of the lumbar
