Ankle & Lower Leg: Radiographic Anatomy - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on radiographic anatomy demonstrated on routine projections of the lower leg and ankle. In a previous lesson, we discussed the anatomy of the lower leg and ankle and which radiographic projections are routinely performed. So let's tie that information to the radiographs themselves. As a reminder, the routine radiographic projections of the lower leg are AP and lateral. Take a look at this radiograph. What projection is being demonstrated? How do you know? Let's find out the answers to these questions. If you said this radiograph is an AP projection of the lower leg, you're correct. We can tell this is an AP because the entire tibia and fibula, as well as the knee and ankle joints are included. The femoral and tibial condyles are in profile with the intercondylar eminence centered within the intercondylar fossa. There is also some superimposition of the fibula and tibia at both ends.
