Allergic Reactions - Video Lesson
Hey everybody and welcome back to our course on Imaging Patient Safety. Today's lesson will discuss allergic and non allergic reactions in diagnostic imaging practice including reactions to contrast media and latex. Let's get started. While x rays, ultrasounds, CT and MRI scans are relatively safe procedures, some allergic type reactions can occur in response to either contrast media or latex. Let's take a closer look at each. Contrast media reactions may present as mild symptoms such as itching, urticaria or hives, or sneezing. More moderate reactions include broncho spasm, angioedema, or hypotension. Severe, life threatening reactions, though rare, can involve anaphylaxis, cardiac arrhythmias, or respiratory collapse. Latex is found in gloves, catheters, or other medical accessories and can also trigger allergic
