Total Spine: Muscles and Vasculature (Anatomy) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the muscles and vasculature of the spine. In this lesson, we will discuss the major muscle groups of the spine, muscles within those groups, and blood flow to the vertebral bodies. Let's get started. The muscles of the spine are organized into three groups, the superficial group, intermediate group, and deep group. Let's break down the superficial group first. The muscles of the superficial group are located superiorly on the spine, and assist with neck and shoulder movements. There are two muscles in this group. These muscles both share the name splenius, then are further named by their location. The splenius capitis is associated with the skull, and the splenius cervicis is associated with the cervical spine. The intermediate group consists of the erector spinae muscles. This group assists with holding the spine upright and maintaining posture. The erector spinae group includes a subgroup based on the region or
