MRI Thoracic Spine (Anatomy) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the thoracic spine. In this lesson, we will look at some anatomy on sagittal and axial scans. Let's get started. On this first sagittal view, we're starting on the lateral side of the spine. Towards the midline of the image, you can begin to see some of the vertebral bodies and discs. Anteriorly, you can see the liver, the rectus abdominis muscle, and the body and manubrium of the sternum. Moving medially, more vertebral bodies come into view as well as the intervertebral foramina with the spinal nerves visualized. This foramina is created by the connection of the inferior articular process and superior articular process. The pedicle is also demonstrated. As we move more towards midline, the discs are better demonstrated. You can see the center of the disc appearing brighter due to the nucleus pulposus. This appears bright because this is a t two weighted image.
