MRI Lumbar Spine (Anatomy) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the lumbar spine. In this lesson, we will look at some anatomy on sagittal and axial scans. Let's get started. Starting at the lateral aspect of the lumbar spine, we can easily see the nerve roots of l four, l five, and l five through s one, one in the intervertebral foramen. We can also see the pedicles of these two vertebral bodies. Continuing medially, the superior articular process of some of the vertebral bodies are visible. The nerve roots of the upper lumbar spine are now seen in the intervertebral foramen. The aorta is located immediately anterior to the spine. We can now see the inferior vertebral notch and the superior vertebral notch along with some signals starting to come from the center of the intervertebral discs. Other important structures include the erector spinae group, which is located posterior to the spinous processes.
