Fluoroscopic Image Quality - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. In this lesson, we will be discussing image quality issues in fluoroscopy. It is important to understand these issues and what causes distortions or artifacts on an image as they can impact a provider's ability to make accurate diagnoses or to perform procedures correctly. It is important to know that when discussing image quality and fluoroscopy, We are paying attention to things like spatial resolution, which is the structural sharpness recorded in the fluoroscopic image. We are looking at contract which is the visible difference in brightness between two adjacent areas in the image. And we're looking for any distortion, which is any discrepancy between the actual an imaged representation of the anatomy of interest. Let's take a look at a diagram of an image intensifier. You can see that the input phosphor is curved. Unfortunately, this curved shape contributes to the image quality issues. Because
