CT Urogram - Video Lesson

Welcome back. This lesson is about the CT Urogram protocol. The CT Urogram protocol is designed to examine the functionality and anatomy of the urinary system. And the defining characteristic of this protocol is to scan the entire collecting system. That's the kidneys, ureters, and bladder during the excretory phase of contrast enhancement. Some facilities may include other phases, but it's not a urogram if we don't scan the patient during the expiratory phase. So why would we perform a scan like this? There's a few reasons for it, all of which relate to a need to evaluate the collecting system. The patient may have recurring hematuria, which is blood in the urine, or they may have recurring renal stones. Those are examples of times where we would actually use the Urogram protocol to evaluate the patient in try to figure out why they have these recurring issues.
