CT Renal Stone - Video Lesson
Welcome back. The CT protocol review is about what we call the renal stone protocol. It might be called the renal calculi protocol, and sometimes it's called CTKUB. In other words, the CT kidney, ureters, and bladder. The CT protocol is a special protocol designed just for the indication of renal stones, also called renal calculus. And if the patient doesn't have known renal stones, then we'd be scanning the patient because they have the characteristic symptoms of renal stones like unilateral flank pain or bilateral flank pain. The CT renal stone protocol is really just designed to look for renal stones. Here's an example of the kinds of pathologies that we would be looking for. The image on the left is a renal stone protocol, and you can see that arrow pointing at a renal stone that's lodged in the right ureter. In the image to the right, you can see another example of a patient suffering from kidney stones. This patient actually has bilateral kidney stones in the renal pelvis.
