Facial Fractures - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about facial fractures that we can visualize in sectional imaging. This first fracture that we'll examine is what we call zygomatic o maxillary complex fracture. It gets its name from the fact that it involves separation of the zygomatic bone orzygoma from the rest of the face. So here's an example of what these fractures can look like. In the axial CT image to the left, we can see an area where the zygomatic bone has fractured away from the maxillary bone on the anterior side of the maxillary sinus. There's another point though where the Zygomatic bone has fractured in the area of the Zygomatic arch. So this is one potential present of a Zygomatico maxillary fracture. In the coronal image to the right, we see something similar. We see a point where there are several fractures on the lateral side of the patient's orbits.
