CT Cranium (Axial) - Video Lesson

Welcome to your sectional anatomy tutorial. This lesson is on CT of the cranium. This CT image of the cranium starts on the superior portion of cranium, so we're actually looking at the very top of the skull. It's actually a little more traditional in CT imaging to start viewing from the bottom of the skull But in any case, we are looking at the superior portion of the skull. The first thing that you'll notice is this central area of the upper cranium, and that's actually the sagittal suture. The sagittal suture runs from the frontal bone all the way back to the occipital bone, and it divides the right and left halves of the parietal bones. So on this side, we actually have the left parietal bone. And on this side, we have the right parietal bone. So the sagittal suture in the center with both parietal bones on either side of the suture. You'll also notice that this suture has the characteristic zigzag appearance That's very normal of the sutures at the cranium. Remember that a suture is simply the joint between two
