Transducers (Types) - Video Lesson
Welcome back everybody to our series on ultrasound transducers. This video is going to explore the different types of transducers used in medical sonography, the concepts underlying their differences, and the applications for each different transducer design. First, let's review what transducers are and their basic construction. The transducer is a critical component of the ultrasound system. It's the device that produces the sound waves which bounce off body tissues and make echoes. It also receives the echoes and sends them to a computer that uses them to create a sonogram. In general, transducers have a piezoelectric element, which creates the sound waves and receives the returning echo. A matching layer, which reduces acoustic impedance and increases sound transmission into the body. A damping element, which limits the vibration of the piezoelectric crystal and reduces
