Transducer Frequencies - Video Lesson
Welcome back everybody to our series on ultrasound transducers. This lesson looks at how transducer frequencies impact sonographic imaging, transducer types, and frequency ranges. Understanding the relationship between transducer frequency, trade offs, and their clinical application is essential for optimizing ultrasound imaging. You might recall that the transducer is the key device in ultrasound imaging. It produces the sound waves which bounce off body tissues to make echoes. It also receives the echoes and sends them to a computer that uses them to create a sonogram. There are several different types of used for different imaging applications, but a common element among each of these types is the piezoelectric crystal. The piezoelectric crystal is the transducer component which vibrates, causing compression of the crystal, which then produces sound waves that travel into the body. It also receives the returning echoes and
