Transducer Relationships Basics - Video Lesson

Hey everybody. Welcome to our series on ultrasound transducers and their use. This lesson focuses on transducer relationships and understanding the principles to producing clear diagnostic quality images, and how different transducers and pulse characteristics impact ultrasound imaging. Remember, as we discussed in another lesson, the transducer is the device which converts electrical energy into mechanical energy that produces the sound waves which bounce off body tissues and make echoes. During transmission, it converts electrical energy into sound waves and when receiving the echoes, converts the mechanical energy of the sound wave into electrical energy using the piezoelectric effect. Transducers are made up of several components, of which the piezoelectric element, matching layer, and damping element are central to the conversion of electrical and sound energy. An important set of relation
