Ultrasound Phantoms - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to our series on ultrasound quality assurance. This lesson focuses on the use of phantoms in Assuring quality ultrasound machine functionality and image quality. In this lesson, we'll explore what ultrasound phantoms are, the different types available, and how they ensure reliable and accurate imaging. Let's begin by defining exactly what phantoms are. Phantoms are specially designed devices that mimic human tissues, allowing us to test the performance of an ultrasound system without using a human patient. They are used in quality assurance programs to evaluate system parameters like spatial resolution, contrast resolution, penetration depth and Doppler accuracy. In other words, phantoms help us ensure that what we see on the screen accurately represents what's happening inside the body. Now that we know the general idea behind phantoms, let's look at the different types of phantoms used in medical sonography.
