Performance Measurements - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to our course on ultrasound patient care and safety. In this lesson, we will discuss performance measurements. Understanding these measures helps in determining the effectiveness of ultrasound in detecting disease and ruling out false diagnoses. Effective patient care begins with ensuring the accuracy of ultrasound diagnostics. Quality assurance in ultrasound imaging involves evaluating the performance of diagnostic tests using statistical indicators. These indicators, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, PPV, and negative predictive value, NPV, allow sonographers and clinicians to assess the reliability of an ultrasound examination. Each statistical index plays a unique role in evaluating diagnostic accuracy. These indicators are calculated using four fundamental components of diagnostic testing.
