Sonography Ergonomic Techniques - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to our course on patient care and safety. In this lesson, we will discuss the safety of you, the sonographer, with regard to work related musculoskeletal disorders. This is important because you are a vital part of the health care team, and your ability to maneuver the transducer directly impacts the success of the scan. Let's get started. First, let's define work related musculoskeletal disorders or WRMSDs. WRMSDs are a significant occupational concern in sonography. These injuries develop gradually due to repetitive strain, sustained postures, and improper ergonomics. Sonographers are at high risk because of the physical demands of scanning, which require prolonged static positions, repetitive hand movements, and awkward body mechanics. Understanding how to minimize risks through proper body mechanics, workstation adjustments, and best ergonomic practices.
