CT Enterography - Video Lesson

This CT protocol review is about a special procedure called the CT enterography study. The name of the study kind of defines its purpose. Inturo is a prefix that refers to the bowels, so this special procedure is designed to especially evaluate the bowels in greater detail than a routine abdomen and pelvis scan. So why would we do a scan like this? The number one reason is Crohn's disease or any other type of small bowel disease. Here's a few example of normal and abnormal CT interography studies. The patient on the far left is completely normal. You can see that the small bowels are fully filled and distended with the contrast the patient has been given, but you don't see any abnormalities in the small bow. Compare that though to the patient in the middle. This patient actually has a severe case of ulcerative colitis, and they're ascending You can see that the bowel wall is significantly thickened and inflamed And, unfortunately, you can see the same thing in the descending colon.
