CT Appendicitis - Video Lesson

Welcome back. The CT protocol review is the CT abdomen and pelvis scan specifically for appendicitis. This scan really is tailored to view especially the appendix of the patient, and so that is really the major indication for this scan. We're looking for appendicitis And so we'd scan the patient using this protocol if they have the traditional presentation of appendicitis. If the patient has right lower quadrant pain, as well as elevated white blood cell count. The specific CT appendicitis protocol can actually vary a lot between institutions, but for the purposes of this lesson, we're going to assume that it's substantially identical to the general CT abdomen and pelvis protocol with just a few differences. One of the differences is the slice parameters. Since we're looking at a very small appendage of the large bowel, we need to use thinner slices. So for the routine abdomen and pelvis, we'd use five millimeters, but for this scan, we'll use three point seven five millimeters for viewing.
