Hey everybody. In this lesson, we'll be talking about basic information related to packs. So what is packs? Pax is actually an acronym that stands for picture, archiving, and communication system. And as the name implies, a PAC system is really the central hub for all image networking and storage in modern radiology departments. Once an imaging study is completed, the images are sent to the PAC server where they are permanently stored. A complete PAC system actually has several parts that all work together. We have technologists work stations, as well as radiologists reading stations, Administrative pack stations, and of course we also have the pack servers that maintain the image archives. All of these systems work together and they communicate with each other in a very special way using a special computer language called Dicom.
