Harmonic Images - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to our course on ultrasound image processing. In this lesson, we will explore the physical principles behind tissue harmonic imaging or THI. The mechanics of the pulse inversion harmonic technique, a comparison between conventional b mode imaging and pulse inversion harmonics, and the ideal clinical scenarios for applying this technology. Let's get started. First, let's discuss harmonics. Harmonics refer to the higher frequency sound waves that are generated as an ultrasound pulse propagates through tissue due to nonlinear acoustic interactions. These harmonic frequencies are integer multiples of the transmitted, fundamental, frequency. With the second harmonic, twice the fundamental frequency, being the most commonly used in imaging. Remember a sound wave is a series of compressions and rarefactions. It was discovered that sound travels at slightly
