Skull: Anatomy & Routine Projections - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on the gross anatomy and routine radiographic projections of the skull. This essential topic forms the foundation for accurate imaging and diagnosis of conditions related to the skull. In this lesson, we'll cover the anatomy of the skull and routine projections for radiographs. Let's get started. Anatomical terms related to the skull include cranial bones, bones that form a protective housing for the brain, sutures, fibrous joints that join the bones of the cranium, and sinuses, air containing cavities situated in the frontal, ethmoid, and sphenoid bones of the cranium. Now let's apply these terms to identify the corresponding anatomy. The skull rests on the superior aspect of the vertebral column and is composed of twenty two separate bones divided into two distinct groups, eight cranial bones and fourteen facial bones. The cranial bones are the focus of this lesson.
