Today's lesson focuses on basic information about ultrasound artifacts, including the fundamental assumptions of ultrasound imaging and the significance of ultrasound artifacts in sonographic imaging. Let's get started. Ultrasound artifacts are image distortions or inaccuracies that result from the interaction of ultrasound waves with tissues in ways that violate the fundamental assumptions of sonographic imaging. These artifacts may either enhance or obscure structures, potentially leading to misinterpretation of diagnostic images. Because these echoes do not have a direct correlation to an anatomic structure, they may be ignored, eliminated, or utilized for diagnosis. Ultrasound imaging relies on several key assumptions about how sound waves propagate and interact with tissue. When these assumptions are violated, artifacts occur. Let's take a look at four of the main
