Resolution Artifacts - Video Lesson

Hey, everybody. Welcome back to today's lesson on artifacts in ultrasound imaging. This lesson focuses on resolution artifacts. Resolution artifacts in diagnostic medical sonography result from limitations in the system's ability to resolve structures accurately. Let's get started. Resolution artifacts are classified into five categories, axial resolution, lateral resolution, elevational resolution, temporal resolution, and spatial resolution artifacts. Each type of resolution artifact influences image quality differently, affecting the clarity and accuracy of anatomic representation. First, let's take a look at axial resolution artifacts. Remember, axial resolution is the system's ability to distinguish between two very close structures that are positioned parallel to the sound beam's main axis. Axial resolution artifacts are created when a long pulse strikes two closely spaced objects.
