Neutropenic Isolation Guidelines - Video Lesson

Hello, and welcome to today's lesson on Nutropenic isolation guidelines. The procedures and practices discussed today are integral in preventing life threatening complications in vulnerable patient populations. Nutropenic isolation is a set of stringent infection control measures designed to protect patients with neutropenia, a condition characterized by a low level of neutrophils. A type of white blood cell essential for fighting off infections. This is a particularly vulnerable patient population and these guidelines exist to protect their severely compromised immune systems. Conditions in situations which indicate the use of neutropenic precautions are cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation, bone marrow transplants, severe infections that deplete neutrophil counts or the use of immunosuppressive drugs, such as those used with transplant patients.
