MRI Thorax (Anatomy) - Video Lesson
Hey everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the thorax. In this lesson, we will look at some anatomy relating to the chest, brachial plexus, and vascular system. Let's get started. While an MRI of the chest is not a commonly performed study, basic anatomy of the chest is still important for a technologist to know. Let's take a look at a few coronal and axial images of the chest. On this first coronal slice of the chest, we can see the left ventricle of the heart and a small portion of the sternum located midline. Toward the lateral edges of the patient, small portions of the ribs can be seen. Moving posteriorly, a large pathologic mediastinal mass is located in the right lung. Inferior to the mass is the liver. There are some important bony structures on this image, including the ribs and the sternoclavicular joints. Here, you can see the manubrium or most superior portion of the sternum and the contact points where the medial portion of the clavicles connect.
