Learn MoreMRI Breast (Anatomy & Pathology) - Video Lesson
Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on the MRI of the breast. In this lesson, we will look at some anatomy and pathology relating to scans of the breasts. Let's get started. An MRI of the breast is usually ordered to evaluate an abnormality found on other imaging modalities, such as mammograms or ultrasounds. Some patients who may be at higher risk for breast cancer may have an MRI as an annual screening process. Breast imaging consists of axial, coronal, and sagittal views. Most protocols will focus on axial and sagittal imaging, so let's take a look at anatomy on these key planes of imaging. In the mid sagittal view, we see the nipple anteriorly. Behind it lies the areola surrounded by subcutaneous fat. The fatty tissues on this image appear as dark because this is a t one post contrast fat saturated image. The glandular tissue or PAR and CHEMA forms a fan like structure containing lobules and ducts respond
