MRI Shoulder/Elbow (Pathology) - Video Lesson

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's lesson on pathology of the shoulder and elbow. In this lesson, we will look at some indications for these studies and compare them to normal images. A more detailed review of specific anatomic structures is provided in the shoulder anatomy and elbow anatomy lessons. It is important to remember there are many pathologies seen in MRI. These are just a few common ones a technologist should be familiar with. Let's jump in. An MRI of the shoulder or elbow is useful for many pathologies, including tendon injuries, labral tears, impingement issues, tumors, and arthritis. First, let's start with the shoulder joint. A well known condition associated with the shoulder is tearing of the rotator cuff. Rotator cuff tears are often caused by trauma or chronic degeneration from repetitive overhead activities. The rotator cuff includes the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, or subscapularis tendon.
