Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on two forms of medication administration, dressings and soaks. In this session, we'll explore when and why these techniques are used, the roles of medication administration, and the proper methods for applying and removing them. A dressing is a material applied to a skin site or lesion to promote healing and protect from further harm. Dressings can be used to hold medication in place, allowing for continuous direct treatment of the skin site or lesion. For example, a patient with an infected lesion may require a dressing infused with antibiotic cream, ensuring direct and consistent medication delivery to the affected area. However, dressings hold in body heat and increase absorption, so they should only be used when ordered by the medical provider. Although some lesions may be covered to protect them from clothing, scratching, contamination, and to absorb exudate or drainage, many lesions heal more quickly when left exposed to air.
