Proper evaluation of the post surgical neck requires systematic scanning using a high resolution linear transducer, usually in the seven to fifteen megahertz range. Start with a full transverse sweep from the submental region to the supraclavicular fossa, followed by longitudinal sweeps along the carotid arteries, thyroid bed, and sternocleidomastoid muscles.
