Abdomen Sonography: Complications Related to Organ Transplants - Video Lesson
Hey everybody. Welcome back to our abdominal ultrasound series. In today's lesson we're going to focus on complications related to organ transplants. Ultrasound is a first line non invasive imaging modality assessing post transplant patients. Our goal as sonographers is to recognize normal post operative anatomy, identify complications early and differentiate between findings that are expected versus those that require urgent intervention. Let's get started. Starting with the liver transplants, many complications that can rise post operatively involve the hepatic artery, portal vein or hepatic veins and ultrasound including collar and spectral doppler is key to assessing these. First, we'll look at hepatic artery thrombosis which is the most serious vascular complication. This appears as absent or severely reduced flow on color Doppler with monophasic waveforms within intrahepatic branches. Hepatic artery stenosis on the other hand typically
