Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about an important aspect of radiation protection called shielding. Shielding is one of the cardinal rules of radiation protection, along with time and distance. It's important to understand how shielding works because it helps to reduce your dose and your patient's radiation dose. Sometimes it's impossible to leave the room or even step away from the radiation source. When that happens, shielding can be used to reduce your radiation dose. There are many types of shielding devices, aprons, thyroid shields, gloves, and leaded glasses are commonly worn by x-ray operators, shadow shields, and contact shields are sometimes used on patients.
