Hip: Anatomy & Routine Projections - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on the gross anatomy and routine radiographic projections of the hip. This essential topic forms the foundation for accurate imaging and diagnosis of conditions related to the hip. Anatomical terms related to the hip include acetabulum, a deep cup shaped cavity that accepts the head of the femur to form the hip joint. Femoral head, the rounded and smooth end of the proximal femur. Femoral neck, a strong pyramidal process of bone that connects the head with the body in the region of the trochanters. Greater trochanter, a large prominence located superiorly and laterally to the femoral shaft. Lesser trochanter, a smaller blunt conical eminence that projects medially and posteriorly from the junction of the neck and shaft of the femur, and body or shaft of the femur, the long, almost cylindrical portion of the femur that connects the proximal portion to the femur.
