Learn MoreAbdomen: Anatomy & Routine Projections - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on the gross anatomy and routine projections of the abdomen. This essential topic forms the foundation for accurate imaging and diagnosis of conditions related to the abdomen. In this lesson, we'll cover appropriate medical terminology, the anatomy of the abdomen, and routine projections for radiographs. Let's dive in. Recall from the general anatomy lesson, the abdominal cavity is the cavity extending from the diaphragm to the superior aspect of the bony pelvis. The peritoneum is the double walled seromembranous sac surrounding the abdominal pelvic cavity. The parietal peritoneum is the portion of the peritoneum in contact with the abdominal wall and under surface of the diaphragm. The visceral peritoneum is the portion of the peritoneum positioned over or around the contained organs. The retroperitoneum is the cavity behind the peritoneum where organs such as the kidneys and pancreas lie.
