Describing Waves: Strength Based Parameters - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome to today's lesson on sound wave basics. This lesson focuses on the strength based parameters of amplitude, power, and intensity, also called acoustic variables. It is important to understand the relationships between amplitude, power, and intensity to ensure proper ultrasound system settings for optimal image quality and patient safety. Let's get started. Remember, there are seven key parameters of wave motion. Period, frequency, wavelength, speed, amplitude, power, and intensity. We can chunk the parameters to make them easier to understand. Period and frequency are time based or temporal parameters describing how a sound wave behaves over time. Wavelength and speed are spatial parameters describing the distance the sound wave moves. Take note that while speed is part of spatial parameters, there is an element of time when discussing speed.
