Hey, everybody. Welcome back to today's lesson on attenuation in ultrasound imaging. This lesson focuses on refraction, particularly the influence of propagation speed and incidence angles. Understanding refraction is essential in diagnostic medical sonography as it directly influences the accuracy of ultrasound images. Refraction can distort anatomical structures, create artifacts, and lead to inaccuracies in image interpretation. Let's get started. Refraction is the bending of a sound wave as it crosses an interface between two media with different propagation speeds and at any angle other than ninety degrees. Remember, if a sound wave strikes an interface at ninety degrees, also called normal incidence, we will have some reflection, which is when the sound wave is reflected back towards the transducer or some transmission, which is when the sound wave
