Imaging Patient Education - Video Lesson

Hey everybody and welcome back to our MRI patient safety course. In this lesson, we'll explore how to bridge the gap between complex MRI terminology and patient understanding, and how to improve communication before, during, and after procedures. Let's get started. An important aspect of imaging patient education is the communication that happens before, during, and after the procedure. Let's take a look at the communication that may occur before an MRI scan. Prior to the procedure, it is important to set the tone, stay calm and confident. Thoroughly explain the procedure carefully by reviewing length of exam time, positioning, breathing commands, and why bowel preparation or contrast is required. Address any questions the patient may have and always ask follow-up questions about implants or devices, such as pacemakers, aneurysm clips, and cochlear implants. It's also important to ask
