Upper GI Series: Special Cases - Video Lesson

Welcome back everybody to our video series on fluoroscopy procedures. This video will focus on special cases related to an upper gastrointestinal or upper GI series. Certain patients may present with modified anatomy due to surge procedures, and some may require contrast media to be injected into a tube instead of a patient swallowing contrast from a cup. There are some special cases related to upper GI series to be aware of, such as gastric bypass or sleeve gastrectomy. Gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy are both surgical procedures used to treat obesity. In a gastric bypass, a small gastric pouch is created and the small bowel is rerouted. Sleeve gastrectomy is the removal of a portion of a stomach. For these special cases, first obtain an adequate history and review the physician's order. This exam could be performed as a single contrast study depending on the indication and
