Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This short video is an introduction to basic EKG. EKG is actually an acronym that stands for electrocardiography. And the word itself tells us what this procedure is. The prefix electro stands for electricity. The next segment cardio is a medical term referring to the heart, and graphy is a medical suffix that refers to an image or imaging. So if you understand those three segments of the word, you understand what an EKG is. It's an electrical image of the heart. During an EKG procedure, the patient is connected to three or more electrical leads that measure the electrical activity through the heart. These electrical impulses are what actually caused the heart to contract and pump blood through the heart and then into the rest of the body.
